摘要

Eleven papers examine the extent to which Catholic Social Teaching can be used to justify the free market, or alternative forms of political and economic organization, in areas such as taxation, welfare, foreign aid, labor markets, and business. Papers discuss understanding Catholic Social Teaching in the light of economic reasoning (Philip Booth); rethinking welfare, reviving charity—a Catholic alternative (Robert A. Sirico); aid, governance, and development (Booth); the unanswered questions of the just wage (Thomas E. Woods Jr.); taxation and the size of the state (Booth); free markets and the culture of consumption (Andrew Yuengert); business and the common good (Robert G. Kennedy); the entrepreneur in the life of the Church and society (Anthony Percy); education and the Catholic Church in England and Wales (Dennis O'Keeffe); subsidiarity and solidarity (Denis O'Brien); and Catholicism and the case for limited government (Samuel Gregg).
