Effect of sludge and other phosphorus (P) sources on concentration and uptake of fluorine (F) by upland rice was conducted at Mugad, Dharwad. The study revealed that application of 100 percent P as sludge recorded significantly higher fluorine in straw (12.8 ppm), husk (2.2 ppm) and dehusked grain (1.1 ppm) than application of SO percent sludge + SO percent single super phosphate (SSP) and 75 percent SSP + 25 percent sludge. Significantly low F content was recorded in control (6.8,0.3 & 0.1 ppm in straw, husk &dehusked grain respectively) which was on par with 100 percent SSP (7.0,0.5 & 0.2 ppm in straw, husk & dehusked grain respectively). The uptake of fluorine by rice plant was higher with 100 percent P as sludge and was decreased significantly as the level of sludge application reduced to 75 percent and 50 percent, respectively.
