JTWC 46:4 is unique to the long history of the Journal of Technical Writing and Communication. It is a guest-edited edition that focuses on the emerging work of one of our discipline's most prestigious graduate programs-the Department of Human-Centered Design and Engineering at the University of Washington. This program has a long, rich, and important history dating back to the very founding of our academic discipline at several universities across the country. To the present day, the Department of Human-Centered Design and Engineering graduates impressive scholars who continuously examine both the roots of our discipline and its expanding branches seeking out new areas of scholarship that prove to affect both practitioners and academics alike.
