No one wants to get sued, but in an increasingly litigious society, technical writers have at times found themselves involved in product liability lawsuits, as well as in lawsuits centered on the clarity or appropriateness of instructions and warnings. Research on this topic spans decades and includes insights from some of our ablest scholars, including Kenneth Houp, Tom Pearsall, Beth Tebeaux, Sam Dragga, John Brockmann, Bernadette Longo, and no doubt many, many others. In this issue of JTWC, we welcome back lawyer and professor Jeff Todd, who instructs readers on just how to avoid getting sued for what we write in instructions and warnings. My suspicion is that this will be one everyone's must-read list.
