The widespread "globalization" of advanced electronic warfare (EW) capabilities to less capable adversaries presents an increasing challenge to UK defense and security, according to a new strategic trends analysis report published by the Ministry of Defence (MOD). Key points identified in the document include the importance of countermeasures and mitigation to electronic attack, the increasing vulnerability of strategic infrastructure to cyber attack and/or denial of access to the electromagnetic spectrum, and the likely proliferation of novel weapons technologies. Written by the MOD's Development, Concepts and Doctrine Centre (DCDC), Future Operating Environment 2035 (FOE35) aims to describe the characteristics of the 2035 operating environment, provide evidence-based insights, and inform future defense capability development. While the findings and deductions in F0E35 do not represent the official policy of the UK government or the MOD, the document sets out to provide context for policy-makers across defense and other government departments.
