Northrop Grumman Corp. (Falls Church, VA) won the EMD contract to develop the Long Range Strike-Bomber for the US Air Force, just before JED went to press. Northrop was awarded the EMD contract, worth an estimated $21.4 billion, after a tough competition against a team of Lockheed Martin and Boeing. Most of the details about the program remain classified. Although the bidders named all major subcontractors as part of their proposals, the DOD has not disclosed which companies are on the Northrop Grumman team. It is believed that Northrop Grumman's Land and Self-Protection Systems Division (Rolling Meadows, IL) is providing most of the aircraft's EW suite.
