Rotary-wing operators typically don't appreciate it when they are compared to their faster-flying fixed-wing breth ren in the fighter community. By those standards, helicopters are fairly humble aircraft that have lagged behind fighter technology, especially in the aircraft survivability equipment (ASE) arena. Yet helicopters face a more dynamic, mul tispectral threat environment. Owners of helicopter fleets have long wrestled with the problem of buying effective multispectral EW capabilities at a price that fits the relatively low unit cost of a helicopter. The answer is not easy. How- ever, EW companies are coming up with some interesting solutions.
