This month, we will discuss moderate accuracy emitter location approaches. Because moderate accuracy systems are direction finders, their accuracy is most conveniently defined in terms of their RMS angular accuracy. A fairly good number for moderate accuracy is 2.5 degrees RMS. This is the accuracy achievable in most direction-finding (DF) approaches without calibration. We will be talking more about calibration later, but for now, "calibration" means systematically measuring and correcting errors in the measurement of angle of arrival of transmitted signals.
