摘要

The purpose of this survey paper is to present an overview of predictive methods for gas-side fouling pressure drop and heat transfer. While the primary interest here is in enhanced surfaces, selected results for plain surfaces are, of necessity, also included. The formulation of such predictive methods requires an understanding of the complex physical phenomena in gas-side fouling as well as accurate experimental data to correlate and assess the accuracy of proposed models. Asymptotic behavior for gas-side fouling has been observed in many laboratory studies and industrial test programs. Data confirm that in many cases the increase in pressure drop is greater than the corresponding decrease in heat transfer, especially in the case of compact surfaces. Finally, it is not surprising that, because of the complexity of gas-side fouling processes, the models currently in existence for gas-side fouling are limited in both scope and number.
