摘要

Contaminated coal is a significant contributor to environmental pollution. The main environmental constituents of the natural environment are air, water and soil. These elements have been degraded through underground exploitation. The result is several radioactive substances present in human activities that in many cases are above acceptable natural radiation levels. This study was performed using spectrometry method and provides analysis on the recent coal samples. The source of this exposure is from several possible contributors, which include equipment with radioactive components, the transport of radioactive components, the terrorist attacks involving radioactive elements, the ammunition using depleted uranium, the radioactive waste and many others. The levels of contamination currently found within the Bobota II are at unacceptable levels. The extreme values of uranium 5.48, 109.0 and 114.7 Bq kg(-1), are above global average values of 35 Bq kg(-1). The accepted global limits for the concentration of this radionuclide U-238 in coal are between 17 and 60 Bq kg(-1). Similar it is at pollutants as Th-232 and K-40. The Th-232 concentrations in two cases are above the international averages, but in averages of measurement, they are within in limits. Regarding the water quality, it is within normal limits, with only fluorine having the highest value.
