We researched for solutions of improving environmental education (EE) and education for sustainable development (ESD) in the Romanian education system. Therefore, we based our research on the answers to a questionnaire we administered to Romanian teachers (Geography teachers and those teaching at the kindergarten and at the primary grades) in order to identify their perceptions of the efficiency of EE and ESD in the Romanian education system. Findings showed that for the EE and the ESD realised in the national education system, teachers perceived that the biggest impact had the activities that they organised in the field, followed by those organised in school and by students' debating environmental issues with the authorities and their teachers. They perceived as weaknesses the small share of activities in the field, the prevailing theoretical character of the formal learning activities, the little time resources, and the fact that the state does not support schools in initiatives promotingsustainable development (SD). Respondents considered that the biggest impact on kindergarten children and students EE and ESD have the family and the school. As a result, teachers contributed by relevant approaches for making efficient the EE and ESD.
