With reference to the specific comments made by Dr. Caetano C. Dorea on our paper , we offer the following response: The type of industrial wastewater simulated in our study is a composite of textile and garment washing and metal finishing wastewater (diluted by domestic wastewater). These industries predominantly occur in Sri Lanka and these wastewaters were found to contain high levels of Al. Previous studies carried out in industrial areas of Sri Lanka especially Ratmalana-Moratuwa area revealed that on average textile and garment washing and metal finishing wastewaters contain Al levels of around 5.62 mg/L with high levels of SO_4~(2-) too. Therefore, we added Al in the form of AR grade aluminum sulfate to simulate Al rich wastewaters. Moreover, it has been revealed that the groundwater in Ratmalana-Moratuwa area (which has a high content of sand in the soil with a shallow water table) where untreated Al laden wastewaters are disposed also contain high Al levels of around 5.6 mg/L.
