We studied Piping Plovers (charadrius melodus) at Goosewing Beach, Rhode Is- land during 1993 and 1994. Broods with access to salt-pond mudflat habitat experienced higher fledging success (3.0 fledglings/ brood) than broods limited to ocean beachfront hab- itat (1.4 fledglings/ brood). This difference may be attributed to greater survivorship among chicks with access to mudflat habitat. Broods using pondshore mudflat habitat spent less time responding o human disturbance (1.6/100)than chicks using ocean beachfront habitat (17.0/100).
