I would like to start with a deeply felt conviction: Popper's philosophy of science is always worth a thorough appraisal. Hence Stefano Gattei's book is a highly welcome addition to other studies about Popper. Surely this amounts to questions which might help to spell out the slogan in more detail: "What does always mean here? Did Popper's and his student's work reach its aim and persuaded his critiques? Is in 2010 Critical Rationalism adequately understood by the philosophically substantiated commonsense?" Obviously not, what Critical Rationalists hasten to complain (e.g. Miller 2007, 22). If "rationality without foundation" is already firmly established in philosophical circles, Gattei's book would be plainly superfluous—but this is not the case. A neutral observer might report that Popper's philosophy of science is on the one hand well known but on the other hand much less discussed as yet some decades ago.
