Last September, the programs of the Hazardous Materials Transportation Act (HMTA)1 were extended, with those of other expiring surface transportation laws, for one year to 30 September 2021. Congress needed more time to enact a long-term extension of these statutes. The extension allowed programs to continue uninterrupted. Industry is gearing up to be a player in shaping the next version of HMTA legislation.
