In September 2011, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transport Canada published a description of a model developed at the behest of the two organizations that can be used to describe the future risk of cargo fires in freighter aircraft. The model looks at not only the probability of cargo area fires occurring in aircraft, but also at the range of costs that can be associated with those types of fires.
