Austen Alexander declares his herd to be a 'semi-retirement herd' as num bers have dropped back to 50, but this didn't stop Fiddlersgreen Holsteins from qualifying as a Master Breeder Herd towards the end of 2009. Austen and his son Neil run the cows on two farms just outside Newcastle in County Down, Northern Ireland and this picturesque location also provides them with a self-catering holiday busi ness, managed by Neil. The bulk of the herd is made up of cows that come with illustrious UK pedigrees.
