Larry Schein was very well known to the IS&T community. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he received a BS from Penn State University, a M.S. from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Illinois in 1970. He was employed by the Xerox Corporation, the IBM Corporation, and from 1994 was an independent consultant to the electrophotographic industry. Larry made significant contributions in the field of electrophotographic technology and was instrumental in describing the fundamental physics of electrophotographic subsystems including development, toner charging, toner transfer, charge transport in amorphous films, and the interactions between the various subsystems in an electrophotographic printer. His research output includes 12 U.S.
