In the current Special Section of the Journal of Imaging Science and Technology, we present full-length, peer-reviewed research papers based on a selection of the presentations given at the 2009 Gjovik Color Imaging Symposium.rnThe Gjovik Color Imaging Symposium has been held in Gjovik, Norway since 2003, hosted and organized by the Norwegian Color Research Laboratory at Gjovik University College. The 2009 edition, GCIS2009, was the fifth, and it took place on June 19, 2009. It was organized in collaboration with the Scandinavian Conference on Image Analysis, SCIA2009, which took place in Oslo earlier the same week.
