Progressive SAR Image Denoising Based on Cycle Spinning

SAR image denoising has been an active research topic. Some SAR image denoising methods are becoming more complex and difficult to analyze and implement. Recently, a method as a simple physical process called Progressive Image Denoising (PID) was proposed, which progressively reduced noise based on Deterministic Annealing (DA) and robust noise estimation. However, it suffers from visible artifacts. To solve this problem, we proposed an SAR image denoising algorithm, which combined PID with cycle-spinning algorithm. The result of our implementation is excellent. It possesses the character of translation invariance. Compared with progressive image denoising, the denoised SAR images of the proposed algorithm are smoother and have fewer man-made textures; the visual effects of the denoised SAR image have been improved significantly.
