A critical look at the unfolding of a field of study is no doubt valuable for creating collective awareness of its strengths, weaknesses, and prospects and may, as a result, trigger adjustment of institutional or individual research orientation. The difficulty of such a task for a field as diverse as information systems should not be underestimated. An overall critique of epistemological fundamentals in the IS field - in terms of core concepts, theoretical approaches, and knowledge contribution - bears the risks of oversimplifying the complexities and value of the research trajectories of the epistemic communities of the field and of imposing one view of good science as the ideal way to proceed in the future.
