The authors of the papers in this special issue investigate the general question of EU expansion using a variety of approaches and focusing on wide variety of specific issues, including the implications of expansion for financial markets, the optimal economic policies to be pursued, the effects of real convergence on price levels, the effects of Euro adoption, and the process of EMU enlargement. In each instance, important policy implications are drawn.
