On 21 October 2008, the Dutch court of Leeuwarden convicted two minors for theft, violence, and menace. The decision is remarkable because it concerned the theft of virtual goods: a virtual amulet and a virtual mask in the online computer game "RuneScape." The victim, also a minor, was a frequent player of "RuneScape" and had succeeded in gathering a considerable amount of virtual wealth and prestige in "RuneScape." He voluntarily accompanied the two offenders to one of their homes, where he was forced to transfer his virtual goods and money to the account of the offenders. The defendents threatened to physically assault and kill the victim when he refused to do so. Eventually, the victim logged on to his account, and then one of the perpetrators transferred all the victim's "RuneScape" virtual money and goods to his own account.
