"For organizations that don't have the will or resources to invest in ransomware defenses now, every day is a gamble that they won't pay for it later."1 Ransomware attacks are on the ' rise. Ransomware is a type of malware that prevents users from accessing their systems or files absent payment of a ransom.2 Throughout 2020, there has been a seven-fold rise in ransomware attacks compared with just last year alone.3 And no business is safe. On November 13, 2020, the Wall Street Journal reported a surge in ransomware attacks on school districts struggling to stay afloat and instruct students in the wake of the pandemic.4 This follows reports, throughout the year, of attacks on hospitals and even institutions working on COVID vaccines5.
