Graber's well thought-out evaluation of the writer's graphical technique for sizing small detention basins in the semiarid Southwest and his comparison of the example solution to those given by his own graphical method (Graber 2009), as well as to numerical solutions found using commercially available software, are greatly appreciated. The writer's graphical procedure can be applied readily by anyone who understands a few basic hydraulic engineering principles, and it is meant to provide answers as simply as possible. It is limited in scope to detention basins with single outlets (simple orifices or weirs) that control storm water runoff from catchments draining no more than several hectares.
