With one of the highest population densities in the world, Hong Kong relies heavily on its metro network to keep its residents and economy moving. Approximately five million people use operator MTR's services during the day, with 1.5 million of these journeys concentrated during the hour-and-a-half to two-hour morning peak. People pack into stations and trains as they head to work and school at destinations across the city, placing the public transport network under severe pressure.
