Stockholm is an apt destination for this year's UITP Global Public Transport Summit. Around the same time as the event takes place, a major pilot of a new Mobility as a Service (MaaS) platform, which could revolutionise transport in the Swedish capital, is set to begin. A couple of hundred households will initially take part and access public transport, car sharing, rental car services and taxis through various flexible monthly subscription options. The service harnesses a smartphone app, which as well as providing a straightforward means for managing account services, enables users to access or hire the mobility service that they require. All members of a household share an account, which is easy to top-up and has the option to roll-on any unused credits or services to the following month.
