Hosting the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games was the largest peacetime logistical exercise a city could undertake. The considerable transport planning work required and undertaken over the ten-year period in advance of the Games played a crucial role in the success of transport during the events. Transport was widely recognised as one of the key successes of London's 2012 Games, particularly as it was the first 'public transport' Games ever held, with the majority of spectators arriving at competition venues by public transport having been issued with a day travel card for use on trains, buses, the Underground (Tube) and the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) with every event ticket.
