摘要

The Central Phoenix/East Valley (CP/EV) is a 20-mile light rait starter line that began serving the cities of Mesa, Phoenix and Tempe in Arizona, USA, in December 2008. The Regional Transportation Plan provides for 37 additional miles of high-capacity transit to operate in the region by 2032. Ridership on the CP/EV line has grown from 34,800 average weekday boardings in 2008 to 43,268 in 2012. This growth in ridership is particularly impressive in the midst of one of the nation's worst economic downturnsthat severely affected the greater Phoenix economy. In light of recent events, many have turned to traditional and creative means for boosting economic development. Of these efforts, the CP/EV light rail line's role in economic regeneration has been at the center of successful transit-oriented development in the region. Within the first four years of operation, it has helped to shape regional travel patterns, drawn new ridership with broad socio-economic and demographic characteristics, and attracted transit-oriented development to the region.
