The future of our planet will most definitely be urban. With cities growing at an unprecedented rate, we are going to need to find imaginative and innovative solutions to make sure everyone can enjoy a sustainable and secure urban future. City leaders know this only too well; in many places urban infrastructure is already pushed to the limit. Meeting not only rising demand, but also higher quality expectations in terms of city services, will call for greater efficiency across the board. Of course, many places are not only looking to improve their efficiency for its own sake- they also want to get ahead of their rivals in order to attract people and businesses and thus ensure their survival. As they strive to be attractive places to live and do business, cities are now a major driving force of innovation.
