The 21st century has been called the century of cities. Although they take up just 2% of the world's surface, cities are home to half of the world's population and concentrate 80% of world economic output At the same time as being key drivers of job creation and innovation, cities are also the largest consumers of natural resources and the biggest sources of CO_2 emissions and pollution on the planet.
