ZF Friedrichshafen AG is meeting all of these requirements with its new EcoLife bus transmis sion: The 6-speed automatic transmission used in city buses, intercity buses, and coaches, as well as in rail vehicles, is consistently designed for fuel-saving operation. Compared with conventional powershift transmissions, the ZF-EcoLife with up to 2,000 Nm conveys 25 percent more torque and has been designed for a considerably longer service life. As standard, the ZF-EcoLife transmissions have been programmed with the new topography-dependent TopoDyn Life control software. The continuously variable shift program of TopoDyn Life guarantees the transmission's optimal operation at any point along the route. Due to the shift system being controlled by TopoDyn Life, the engine is always driven in the optimal speed range which also significantly reduces wear on the engine. In future, the ZF-EcoLife will also be available as a parallel hybrid solution thus opening up new fuel savings potential. Instead of the torque converter, a hybrid module will be integrated into the converter housing.
