The pace of urban life has sped up and many cities are now 'open' 24 hours a day, seven days a week to meet city dwellers' expectations to be able to access urban services whenever and wherever they want. This has resulted in an increase in the frequency and diversity of trips and it is indeed difficult for public transport to provide the flexibility demanded. Public transport is being challenged to become a key player in providing ever more flexible and diverse mobility services.
