The cornerstone of the directive is the 'Driver Certificate of Professional Competence' which is issued to drivers who meet a recognised level of professional skills obtained as part of initial and periodic training.rnIt is a certificate that all professional bus, coach and lorry drivers in the European Union must have and be able to present to the authorities upon request. The certificate is renewed every five years.rnThe certificate recognises and accredits the knowledge and skills required within the driving profession, and the prescribed training provisions are seen as a positive ackowledgment of the demands of the profession.
