Greater Tehran is currently one of the most populated mega cities in the world with an estimated 14 million inhabitants and 13 million daily motorized trips. Improving public transport has become crucial in Tehran at a time when the increasing road congestion is jeopardizing air quality and the economic profitability of the city workforce.
