School children in Ireland are being asked the question "how do you travel to school?" as part of an on-going pilot programme which focuses on promoting sustainable travel on the school run. An Taisce - The National Trust for Ireland1 has been undertaking the pilot programme since August 2005 with the support of the Dublin Transportation Office through the National Development Plan 2000-2006 and 2007-2013. The pilot programme is being delivered through the successful Green-Schools programme, known internationally as Eco-Schools, in partnership with Local Authorities. A total of 50 schools from the Greater Dublin Area are taking part in the pilot, this represents approximately 17,400 children and 954 teachers.
