As a public transport operator serving over 5,000 local and regional authorities in 27 countries around the world, Veolia Transport not only manages bus, tramway, rail and ferry networks, but also acts as a mobility provider when conventional transport modes are no longer able to offer an attractive, efficient, economic or readily accessible service. This is the point at which taxi firms can step in to play a key role in offering made-to-measure services, particularly at off-peak times, in sparsely populated regions or for people for whom travel is difficult. This fresh approach also reflects increasingly individualised journey needs that are being exacerbated further by rampant urban sprawl. Within a less and less localised urban environment whose population wants flexible, (i.e. made-to-measure) services, taxis are part and parcel of a mobility chain that needs to be structured and made more fluid.
