On 4 September the European Bus System of the Future (EBSF), an EU-funded project led by UITP, was launched in Rome in Campidogllo, in the presence of Mr Antonio Tajani, Commissioner for Transport of the European Commission. Nearly 150 representatives of the project partners, European Commission, institutions and journalists participated in the official ceremony to launch this four-year project. With a total budget of EUR 26 million under the 7th Framework Programme, EBSF is one of the largest surface transport research and development projects that has ever been funded by the European Union. For the first time, the five leading European bus manufacturers will work together to develop a new bus system for Europe, with 42 other partners including transport operators and national transport associations, public transport authorities the supply industry, major research centres, Universities and consultancy firms.
