摘要

This book attempts to present the relationship between a series of complex contemporary areas and does so with precision and care. The dangers were that each area might not be considered in sufficient detail and that these areas would not be blended effectively together to present a coherent focus for the text as a whole. Although each of these dangers is present to some degree, the text does offer some justifiable conclusions that are substantively drawn from the material presented. There is a good focus on the key links between librarianship and scholarship, the contested nature of the knowledge discourse, and the burning, destruction or re-formatting of texts as a symbol of cultural dominance, which represents the main emphasis of this book.
