摘要

Many of us have experienced the problems of university governance in some form. A lack of autonomy, political motives, and faculty-administrator conflicts provide endless sources of frustration for all parties involved. The Journal of Management Inquiry (JMI) has presented many perspectives about the existing governance structures that seem to encourage these obstructive forces (Bradshaw & Fredette, 2009a; Bradshaw & Fredette, 2009b; Feyerherm, 2009; Gallos, 2009; Posner, 2009). In response to these arguments and in keeping with JMI's unconventional tone, the authors of this essay provide us with a nontraditional example of governance in higher education. The authors assess the problems with traditional higher education governance systems from all three responsible groups: the board of trustees, the administration, and the faculty. They then provide us with a governance example that, they argue, addresses many of the problems associated with the current bicameral model in place at most schools.
