This volume is essential reading for anybody working on the moral status of soldiers and it is, despite some drawbacks, an invaluable resource for teaching military ethics. There is a sensible balance between theory and practice. And while very different points of view are represented, the whole volume offers - mainly due to the introduction and the last two chapters - a concise overview of the topic and still manages to probe deeply into important issues.
