The Journal of Military Ethics is entering its second decade. Ten years ago, our first issue was published. On a conspicuous date a few months before that, September 11, 2001, the deadline was set for submitting revised articles for that first issue. To mark both anniversaries - the grizzly one and the happier one a number of authors and editorial staff from the US and Norway, associated with JME, gathered in Oslo in mid-September, 2011. The debates were lively and the perspectives challenging, all in their various ways issuing in an affirmation of the importance of military ethics as we encounter counter-insurgencies, covert military operations and structures, tensions between religions and cultures, deep psychological scars after war, and new military technologies, to name but a few of the themes raised at the conference.
