Holyoke Water Work's (HWW's) water treatment facility (WTF) treats raw water from the Tighe-Carmody Reservoir and the McLean Reservoir, two high quality surface water supplies. Because the water quality from the HWW's reservoir system is of exceptional quality, Holyoke has maintained a waiver from filtration. Treatment at the WTF previously included chlorine for disinfection, fluoride for dental health, soda ash, sodjum bicarbonate, and orthopolyphosphate for corrosion control, and ammonia gas for the creation of chloramines for secondary disinfection within the distribution system.
