This issue of Journal of Organizational Behavior Management depicts the evolving interest in the utility of concept of the metacontingency, which has captured attention at the level of both theory and basic (laboratory) research. The research article by Matthew C. Camden and Timothy D. Ludwig provides a sophisticated demonstration of how normative feedback at the individual behavioral contingency as well as the interlocked behavioral contingency levels can positively impact absenteeism in an organization. A research report by Angela R. Lebbon and John Austin provides a systematic account of reactivity to the presence of observers and explores whether habituation or other processes affect work-related behavior in the presence of an observer. I believe the approach of these authors toward analyzing reactivity in a simulated work setting makes this article a provocative piece occasioning future research in this area.
