摘要

Blackburn's new book takes off from where he left the story in his earlier work (Banking on Death) with a defence of pension institutions funded by share levies. The author's previous volume had a decidedly historical cast, but this new book is positioned slap-bang in the present day: it mixes together trends in costs associated with the aging of Western societies, concerns about the weak hand of financial institutions in corporate governance and senior executive remuneration, and the prospects for those who will follow the Baby Boom into retirement. It is a manifesto for change, linking concern over the welfare of those who will retire over the next 25 years with a commitment to social justice and a reformist zeal for re-making corporate capitalism in a manner consistent with 21st century necessities.
