摘要

In many ways it is remarkable that neoliberalism still holds a hegemonic position in economic, political and social governance worldwide, despite extensive and sustained critique from scholars, social activists, public servants, journalist and experts. Yet it has been shown that it has a pervasive rationality that is applied to ever more aspects of human existence (see Brown 2015). One explanation is of course that neoliberalism is too unspecific, too elusive, too complex, and simply too heterogeneous to be susceptible to criticism and that, like a living creature in a hostile Darwinian environment, it survives by mutating and adapting, and thereby persists (Peck 2010). The paradox is of course that the more attention and criticism we extend to 'neoliberalism', all the more pervasive and elusive it grows; it is a socio-political Hydra of our time. It is thus a challenge in itself to engage critically with neoliberalism and its various local adaptions.
