摘要

Over the last four decades, the Western world - or at least the world of gender scholars and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer activists - has witnessed a paradigm shift on the issue of 'transgender'. When Richard Ekins and Dave King first started their intellectual journeys in what was then most commonly referred to as tranvestism and transsexualism, this topic was so alien to the sociological community that even an early attempt by Ekins to set up a university course on the theme of sex, sexuality and gender in his department was regarded with the deepest suspicion: was this not, he was asked, a matter of biology and psychology rather than social structures?
