摘要

This paper measures the impact of the economic crisis on the level of change in social inclusion in the EU during the period 2005-2012. A comparison of the period 2005-2008 (pre-crisis) and 2009-2012 (post-crisis) suggests that the financial and economic crisis of 2008 and the period of economic downturn and austerity that followed deteriorated social inclusion for a large majority of the EU Member States. Moreover, while the period 2005-2008 showed a general trend of progress and convergence in social inclusion among EU Member States, the post-crisis period (period 2009-2012) shows a trend of general regress and divergence with Member States that are more impacted by the crisis displaying more deterioration in social inclusion as compared to the Member States that are less impacted.
