Recently, military historian Dennis Showalter, specializing in German military history, explicitly stated: 'Perhaps the most noteworthy feature of the operation [the extermination of the Jews — M.L.] is the relatively limited direct impact it had on the Nazi war effort. The Holocaust was accomplished with the spare change of a total war'.1 It is a statement shared by quite a number of historians. In his provocative Holocaust Versus Wehrmacht: How Hitler's 'Final Solution' Undermined the German War Effort, Yaron Pasher claims this in incorrect: According to the author, the Holocaust had a fundamental effect, basically being the undoing of Hitler's war. It is indeed a stimulating and provocative statement. Does it hold in the light of Pasher's argumentation?
