This paper presents the specifications and the modifications carried out in the improved Solar Array Drive Assembly developed for IRS-1C/1D Spacecraft. The improvements made in the hybrid steppermotor, Slip Ring Assembly and the Drive Control Electronics are highlighted. An identical improved Solar Array Drive Assembly has been realised and flight acceptance tested and has also been successfully used on board the IRS-P2 spacecraft during the past 9 months without any deviation in performance.
